Fiscal sponsorship is an alternative to starting your own 501c3 non-profit organization.

Fiscal sponsorship means a nonprofit organization (the “fiscal sponsor”) agrees to provide administrative services and oversight to, and assume legal and financial responsibility for, the activities of groups or individuals engaged in work that furthers the fiscal sponsor’s mission.

Having a fiscal sponsor can be a more efficient, and less expensive, alternative to starting your own 501c3 non-profit organization.

A Better Way Foundation exists to help justice-centered organizations thrive.

The groups that we fiscally-sponsor are led by brave, committed, passionate community leaders and organizers dedicated to organizing for justice in their communities and across the state. They did not start organizing because they wanted to learn non-profit administration, or non-profit finance. They started organizing in response to injustice in their community, and then realized that building an organization or group is a necessity for the work to be sustained.

How much does it cost?

The fiscal sponsorship fee at A Better Way Foundation is a range based on several factors— the size of your budget, how long your group has existed, and your growth plans for the future. The current fee range is 6-10% of your budget.

Application Process

1. Inquiry form opens January 1 - March 30

2. Initial meeting to assess organization needs

3. Invitation to apply

4. Interview

5. Decisions go out by June 1

Once you have completed the inquiry form, our team will reach out to you to schedule an initial meeting to assess your needs within 2 weeks.
